    Hello,

I am very new to C4D. I have been using it for about a week. I have created 2d animation in quicktime file with has embedded alpha channel. I’d like to import it into C4d. How can I make alpha channel to create transparency in C4D? Should i take care of it at composite? Thank you!

you can take that into the alpha chanel in the material…but it is better quality in a compositing package.

thank you. That’s what I thought, yet my main composite app is Shake-it will be a bit pain in butt to track all the camera moves and all that. should I use AF since they will import camera moves as well?

you can use the movie in most material channels. If it has an alpha then, when used in the material’s alpha channel, it will use that and not the color data.

SHake is a a little difficult to move tracking data from…I use PF HOE pro then I can send the camera to both c4d and shake.

Pay attention to the frame rate of your video texture in your final render. I have had the experience that sometime C4D will drop frames when using quicktime as a texture. Now I usually convert a movie into an image sequence to be on the safe side.

Also, make sure your movie texture has no fields. That can look pretty crappy going through C4D, too.

So you know background alpha channel option doesn’t work on a Mac.

I agree with Kenneth image sequences look better.

Yes. i was having some difficulty w/ my alpha to work in C4D… I did not know Alpha textures aren’t working on Mac platform…… Anyway, I am thinking about making an investment in PFHoe which sounds like a very useful tool for the price. (PF Tracker is a bit over loaded for my needs for now.) Thank you all for your advises. 😉

Do you use After Effects? I have just installed the C4D plugin that lets you import camera data, etc. from C4D into AE, and it’s fantastic.

Also, when I render a texture successfully in C4D, I can see it has been softened, which I don’t see in AE. When you have a softened element comped over a perfect, crisp 3D render, it can be pretty noticeable. Plus, AE renders the same effect far faster.

Ah, too bad. I am more experienced w/ Shake, Not AF. I have heard that AF is great to work with C4D….I should try AF out and see…
