  • Importing QT footage to be edited in FCP [missing audio]

Posted by Gcode9 on September 2, 2005 at 2:11 am

Can anyone please assist me with importing a QT movie that I need to make edits to for a client. I have no problem with importing the footage, however I’m not getting any audio. The original QT plays the video and audio. Is this normal behavior for this process? All help is very appreciated.

    Thanks.

are the audio and video captured separately? They should be captured as one file.

I’m not sure if they are together or seperate. I was provided the QT file (CD)and was asked to make edits to it. I copied the QT file to my desktop and imported the file into FCP HD. The file appears in the Browser, however once I place the clip on the timeline it’s just giving me the video and no audio. Again the audio plays from the original QT file that I placed on my desktop from the CD. I appreciate the help Walter!!!!

    Thanks

Is it possibly an MPEG file?

Then you need to use a program such as MPEGStreamclip to de-mux the files.

In QT under Movie Properties, it should tell you what codec was used to create the file.

Google MPEGStreamclip. It should be a free download.

    Hope this helps!!

To say “QT” is meaningless, you need to know what codec it uses.
Command-I with the file open in Quicktime player.

If Mpeg streamclip can’t do it, you may have to demux it and then convert the resulting files.
For audio i have even resorted to capturing it with WireTap Pro.
