  • Importing P2 card filmed at 720p on Panasonic HPX 170

    Hi everyone,

Just joined again after many years… please bear with me in case I’m breaking some housekeeping rules 🙂

I’ve got lots of P2 cards backed up from years ago that were filmed in 720p and I’d like to import some of them again for a project.

In case you used this camera and DVCPOR HD, then you know that 1080 was only 1080i and I decided to shoot 720p and save the hard drive storage space as they’d occupy only half space compared to filming in 1080i.

Now, I’m using MacBook Pro M1 on Ventura and FCPX 10.6.6.

When I import those P2 cards/files, it doesn’t half the storage, a 64 GB card upon import still translates into 64 GB on my hard drive. No saving in storage.

Is there a way around it and can I import it differently so I can still save on storage space?

    Thanks

    Mio

If you set the camera to record at 720p, the savings would be seen as extended recording time while you shoot.

A full 64GB card is going to transfer 64GB, regardless of format, whether it’s 20 minutes of 1080i or 40 minutes of 720p.
