Howdy, okay, I ripped a Dvd, and saved it to an external HD. I played it through an external media player to my HDTV. It shows.

So, I tried to import it into Vegas and only the audio was imported, no video. It’s an .avi format. Any suggestions?

    thanks in advance,

    Gary

Seems the codec used in this avi file is not
    compatible with Vegas.
What did you use to rip this DVD?

To import a DVD into Vegas Pro, you should be using the menu item File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc….

Okay, I’ll keep this in mind. I ended up converting the file to Mp4 and it worked, meaning that at least I was able to import it. But now, when I drag the file onto the timeline the video doesn’t show any individual frames. It plays normally through video preview, but on the timeline for the first 10 minutes it just shows black. I have set thumbnails to all. After the black there are thumbnails spread out over the 1.3hours, but no frames. ???

Okay, I zoomed in, and it opened everything up. Nothing like working with a professional production to learn this program!
