  • Importing Maya scene in After Effects?

Posted by Sammy Jay on May 13, 2009 at 5:53 am

I have a 3d scene made in Maya and I want to place video screens I have made up in AE throughout the 3d scene. Is it best to import the sequence from Maya in to AE, or the other way around?

    Thanks

I’ve never done anything like that before, but I’m gonna have to do it this week. Instinctively, I would import the CGI in After Effects, so that you can tweak colour correction afterwards…

Let me know how you go.

I definitely know if it was just a 3D object that I should bring it in to AE. But the whole scene is what I am unsure about…

Render out the scene (passes and all if any), and import the Maya camera into AE along with the render. (Plenty of tuts describing that online.) In Maya, if you place nulls at the points where the video screens are, these can come into AE also and make it easier to composite in 3d space.
