importing into avid
Hi-
We shot 24p HD with Panasonic HVX200 directly onto external harddrive through Final Cut. Didn’t have budget for P2 cards. We are trying to import the quicktimes (1280×720) from FCP capture scratch into the Avid. Keep getting either white screens or error messages- (we have tried compressing the files though FCP compressor to different formats) I assume this is because of framerate. Anyone know a codec that solves this problem (I know there is one) or any other suggestions?

unfortunately we are trying to import 24 fps footage, which this doesnt do.
Also its pretty pricy.
Other suggestions would be much appriciated. -
This in the case where a little testing a research is VITAL. The money you saved by not getting P2 cards or a firestore to shoot onto will now cost you a little in the post arena…specifically in your time.
The Quicktime files will not be readable by the Avid in their current state. The DVCPRO HD codec isn’t in the PC Quicktime codec list…so it will show up white. What you’ll have to do is convert it to a codec that the Avid can understand and work with.

yes- we should have tested first. unfortunatly didn’t have the camera available- but we do have expendable time. Do you know which codec it is that we need?

No, sorry. In the case where we had to get the footage onto an Avid, we shot P2, imported into FCP, output to DVCPRO HD tape, and captured that into the Avid. But seeing that you don’t have the budget to rent a DVCPRO HD Deck, you’d have to convert the files. But, not having do that, I can’t suggest which ones to go for. Animation is the best cross platform codec, but the file sizes are huge.
