I shot an event recently in DV SP on my Z1U and when I imported the footage for some reason Final Cut brought it in as 16:9. I had the project set up with the DV-NTSC 48khz setup and it still happened. I managed to bring it back to 4:3 by changing the sequence settings, but is there a way I can prevent this from happening?

you need to change the settings on the camera itself. By default, when you switch a Z1U to DV, it still wants to record in 16:9. When the z1u is in dv 4:3 mode, the edges of the image on the lcd viewfinder will have a dark overlay on the edges of the screen, indicating the what part of the image is being cut off for the 4:3. FCP detected that the footage was 16:9 and captured accordingly.
