I was wondering if anyone knew of a way of importing FLV video files into Premiere for editing using free software (if possible)

    thank you

Premiere Pro CS5 imports FLV files itself, if those files are encoded with the On2 VP6 codec.

    See this page.

If the FLV file was encoded with the Sorenson Spark codec, then you can use Premiere Pro or Adobe Media Encoder CS4 to import and convert the file
