importing files = color wheel of death
I am trying to import an audio file into Motion and get the spinning color wheel of death. Tried both MP3 and AIF files and it basically shut down my system.

All I can tell you is that we bring in audio regularly. We generally use AIF. I doubt it’s the application, probably something odd in the file. Try bringing in other standard audio formats like exporting something from FCP.

MP3 is a big no no. What are the AIF’s specs? Should be PCM, 48Khz 16-bit stereo.
