  • Importing FCP 7 Footage into Avid Media Composer 6?

    Hi,

I’m new to Avid. I am coming from Final Cut Pro 7.

    Here’s my first question.

I have captured a Mini-DV taped footage, 1440x1080i into Final Cut. It is a QT file (9.29 GB) and it’s 48 minutes long.

I have tried to import that file into Avid, by hitting Import —- and then I go find this file and it then it is really, really slow to import in Avid. I alway stop it because I can see how long it’s going to take.

How can I get this clip to import into Avid a lot faster?

Do I need an AMA? (I’ve never used one so I don’t know how they work? Or can I change some settings inside Avid to make it import faster

    Thanks in advance.

    Mac Pro

    10GB RAM

    Media Composer 6

You can AMA link to, and work with the footage like that. “Import” is almost instantaneous, and you’ll be up and editing in seconds.
