  • Importing AVCHD footage into Premiere Pro CS5 on a Mac

I just purchased a Sony HXR-NX5U camera. I am connecting the camera to my MacBook Pro via a USB cord.
I am on a Mac OS X with a 2.53 GHz processor with 4 GB of memory and 500 GB hard drive.

    Three questions:

    1. According to Premiere I should be able to see all my clips in Media Browser and decide which ones I want before importing them. However, no clips show up in my media browser- only the folder which no subclips. The only way I can import them is by selecting import from media browser and it imports every clip. How do I preview the clips before importing them?

    2. I am assuming the best thing to do once I want the clips on my hard drive is to simply copy and paste using the Finder. Is that correct?

    3. Once the clips are in my sequence, they play with a jerky motion and a yellow line appears. The only way to solve this issue is to render. Do I really have to render every clip individually????

Please help. I have spent hours searching every forum and blog I can find and have had no luck!

Are you creating a AVCHD project/sequence? If so, you should see 2 option in the media browser in Premiere. It should say AVCHD or File.

I normally don’t see the clips as thumbnails… but you can double click them and they will preview.

    2. Copy everything in the file structure on the camera to a folder. That way Premiere should still see it like it’s still on the camera. But yes, is the simple answer.

    3. Depending on your hardware you still have to render.
