Importing AVCHD footage into FCP X
I have downloaded some AVCHD footage from a SDHC memory card onto an internal hard drive on my Mac Pro Quad-Core. I would like to import this footage from the internal hard drive into Final Cut Pro X. Is there a technique that will permit me to do this. I appreciate your thoughtful consideration of this question.

Downloaded how? Do you have the complete AVCHD folder structure from the recording medium?

Thanks for responding, Tom. I still have fond memories of a class you taught in NYC many years ago. To answer your question, I have the complete AVCHD folder structure from the recording medium (i.e., the SDHC memory card). Again, thanks.

Back up the folder structure as your archive. In FCP click the camera import button. In the lower left click open archive and point the navigation dialog to the top level of the archive structure. That should mount the folder and populate the import window.

Tom: Sorry, but how do I back up the folder structure as my archive? I’m very new to X. I’ve taken a course, but that technique was not covered. Again, thanks. Ralph

Simply make a folder, name it something appropriate, like a reel name, and copy the whole folder structure into it. Make a separate one for each card or disk you archive.
