I STARTED A PROJECT ON AVID EXPRESS PRO (HD VIDEO DUBED TO SD)
AND NEED TO FINISH THE PROJECT ON FCP HD FORMAT. IS IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO IMPORT THE AVID EDL ONTO FCP AND RE-BATCH DEGITIZE THE HD VIDEO? IM NOT CONVERTING OMF TO MOV FILES I ONLY NEED THE EDL INFO TO RE-DIGITZE.

The utility in Sebsky tools (ale2fcp) converts ALE shot logs, exported from Avid, to batch lists which can be imported into FCP. Making it possible to move bins from Avid to FCP.

This is a very handle little app that is a collection of 5 utilities, and is freeware.

    You CapsLock’s stuck.

There is no such thing as “Avid EDL”. EDL’s were meant for linear edit controllers and named after different models of these controllers. The one which carries the most information is CMX3600. Avid EDL utility defaults to CMX340 by the way and you cannot tell it by just glancing at the interface. There might be also an issue of frame rate difference between HD and HD

OMF or AAF from Avid is the best way to move a project from Avid to FCP. Export either format from Avid.

Then purchase the Automatic Duck Pro Importer for FCP.

    Import the project from Avid.

Your project opens in FCP ready to re-digitize all material.

I’ve been doing this for over two years now and it’s the easiest and most accurate way to transfer the projects between systems. AAF’s work even better than OMF’s.
