  • Importing a WMV

Posted by Steven Gladstone on June 29, 2010 at 3:51 am

I’m trying to import a WMV into Final cut. The problem is that it imports as a different file length every time. Sometimes 2 minutes and 3 seconds, sometimes less than 2 minutes. It is also happening when I try to use Mpegstreamclip. The WMV is 15minutes sixteen seconds long, less than 200 MB. It plays the full length on a PC, but not when I try to import/comvert it on the mac.

Using Intel Mac, final Cut 6.06 OS is 10.5.8

    Any help, really appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi Steven,
Are you using a Demo of Flip4Mac?

No, I believe I’m using the regular install, but I’ll check. Why would that affect Mpeg streamclip though?

    Thanks

QT applications can only read or write WMV only if you have the F4Mac component.
If the plugin is not fully functional, will affect to all the applications.

Thanks, I do actually only have the demo – I will purchase a license, and let you know.

    Thanks again.

I use Flip 4 Mac Studio (and Studio Pro on another Mac, though Player Pro would do it) and MPEG Streamclip to convert WMVs to a QuickTime MOV using whatever codec my sequence is using (usually DV). I can then import it straight into the FCP browser and thence onto the timeline.

I reinstalled Flip4mac (a new verison) and now it plays correctly.

    Thanks.
