  • Importing a Premier Pro CS5 XML is fine but all my files are Unrendered

Posted by Steve Young on June 9, 2010 at 2:06 pm

I am working with HDV 720p 20.97fps 1280×720 Square Pixels in Premier Pro CS5

I can export an XML and load up fine in the latest Final Cut Pro matching the Sequence settings BUT the whole sequence imports as Unrendered i.e. Red above the timeline.

The original CS5 Prem Pro project files have all been rendered and the render files exist on disk – so do I have to re-render all of these files again in FCP (which is weighing in at 10hours!!) – if so am I missing the trick here on what the advantage is off exporting the XML if the render files arent referenced as well??

Hope someone out there has experienced the same problem and can shed some light on this!

XML doesn’t usually handle render files. It handles the original files with filters.

Lowest form of “humour” – great example in your post.

Why on earth promote an Export to FCP XML intergration from CS5 so heavily if basically there is not much point, unless for small projects, if you have to render again

Because render files are disposable. The real information is stored with your original media and the filters/effects contained within. That is the timeline, the render files are just ancillary. If the render files came over with the XML, then those render files would be your new master files instead of your camera originals. Making more sense?

10hr render seems like a small price to pay for the ability to go from one editor to a completely different one…don’t ya think?

And if you weren’t working in HDV, I am sure the render would go faster. Try a ProRes timeline.

Ditto that – and to think that you can import an Avid project into CS5 and then export that out to FCP….. Avid to FCP without the duck?
