Importing 3840×2880 footage
Hi all,
Looking for help on an issue I don’t understand.
My workflow is to sequence JPGs in After Effects at 24fps, export to Quicktime ProRes files, then edit in FCPX. Lately, I’ve been exporting these JPG sequences at a custom 3840×2880 resolution instead of 3840×2160, because that way I can get more of the original 4:3 image without cropping – I can then make choices in FCPX, if I want to shift the 16:9 frame around.
However, when I import my footage into the FCPX 4K timeline, I have to enlarge the clips to 134% in order to cover the full 16:9 frame without any pill-boxing. At first I assumed this was some weird glitch — the original clips are recognized as 3840×2880 in the info tab — but now I am starting to see some artifacting on certain images that make me think FCPX is indeed enlarging the clips bigger than 100%.
Can anyone tell me why I have to make the clips 134% instead of <100%? The only answer I can think of is that FCPX is recognizing my custom resolution as anamorphic for some reason, and squishing it back to 2160px height. Never had this issue when I used the same workflow in FCP7.
Thanks
Dan
