Importing 30NDF audio into 720p/23.976 Project
Shooting on HVX500 cameras in the native 720/24pN format running Time of Day timecode. Timeline is 720p/23.976 setting. Production audio is coming from a 16-bit 48Khz Broadcast WAV recorded with 30NDF TC.
I am trying to figure out the proper way to import the production audio files which were recorded with 30NDF TC into this project so that I can calculate TC offset from Time of Day timecode recorded on both the audio and the picture.
However, no matter how I import the audio, I always see the video as 24fps, and the audio as 30fps in the Avid’s TC display in the source monitor. It makes it impossible to calculate the offset, does it not? Or perhaps I am missing something obvious? My ignorance regarding timecode is monumental, and I have to sync a load of dailies by the morning that don’t include slates or clappers… So I am in the thick of i.
Which settings are correct for import? Should I be checking the “Do not convert sources with pull-up and down rates” box?

The START timcecode in a 720p/23.976 project is 30fps with timecode adjusted for the native 24fps. If you recorded audio at 30fps NDF, then you should import it that way as well. If you want timecode adjusted for 24fps, then highlight the START timecode column and do a command-D or ctrl-D and select TC24 from the pop up window. The act of doing so will convert the 30fps to 24fps giving you a 1:1 timecode to the edit rate of 23.976.
