Imported video won’t display in correct width
I’m using Vegas Pro 8 and I’m pretty new to it. I’m importing video from a Canon FS11 and I can’t get Vegas to show the video in the correct width. The video from the camera is 860×480, but when I bring it into Vegas, it is displayed as 720×480. I’ve tried changing the project template to 860×480, but it still shows the video as 720×480 with black bars to the left and right.
Is there a step I’m missing?

Try opening the “event pan/crop” window (pressing the little box
on the edge of the video clip)…then you right click and select

Thanks Steve, but I’m not sure that’s it. That adjusts the pan & crop window, but the problem seems to be with the source video.
In other words, when I drop the source video into Vegas, it’s too narrow. The original source video is actually 860×480, but Vegas is squeezing it into a 720×480 window. Since the actual source is getting squeezed, the output comes out that way also.
I’ve actually cheated by forcing my flash player to stretch it back out, but that doesn’t really fix the problem, it just makes it look right on my website.

It’s Vegas Pro 8 and I’m running Vista x64.

As i have guessed…There is a current bug in vegas 8.1
64bit version..that causes what you are experiencing,
numerous editors have the same problem arising.
Try using 8.0c for the time being to avoid this glitch.
Sony is aware of it and will address it in an update soon.Steve Rhoden

I spoke too soon. I just checked and I’m running 8.0c. I didn’t realize that I wasn’t running the 64 bit version of Vegas.
Any other ideas?
