Imported video plays “choppy” in Premiere, what can I do?
I am a complete newbie to this sophisticated program and can’t get the video to play smoothly even before editing the video. I chose to practice with some downloaded video clips that I have already on my PC. When I start a new Adobe Premiere document and import any of the clips, they all play like at a frame per second while the sound plays normally giving a “choppy” look to the video. What can I do? Thanks.

Two very important questions:
1. What type of video file are you using? Not all video files are created equal. Not all are good for editing, and the format alone can cause this type of problem. Premiere may not be compatible with the file.
2. What are your computer specs? A slow (or overtaxed) computer could obviously cause this; video editing is an intensive task. Processor type and speed, amount of RAM, number of hard drives, their total capacity and available space, video card and amount of memory on it… and anything else you want to add.
Oh, and what version of Premiere are you using?
