  • Import XDCAM EX Footage Using AMA in MC5?

Posted by Will Lehr on July 1, 2010 at 9:34 pm

I have footage shot on a Sony EX1 camera that I’d like to import using AMA in Media Composer 5. I receive an error message for each card and clip that it cannot be opened. I can only find an EX plug-in for Media Composer 4.0 to enable AMA access. Is there a plug-in or other method of importing XDCAM EX clips with AMA in Media Composer 5?

What is the error you are getting? I do this every week in MC5 and it works perfectly.

The error message simply says ‘Unable to link to any clips at ‘ each time, no matter which folder is selected.

You don’t need the plugin if you are on MC5. Are you trying to “Import” or are you using File > Link to AMA Volume? Or File > Link to AMA File(s)?

    Let me know,

    Hi Larry,

I’d like to use ‘Link to AMA Volume.’ I’m sorry for the confusion in saying ‘import’ for the clips.

So with the ‘Link to AMA Volume’ option, are there specific plug-ins or versions that I need to work with MC5?

You shouldn’t need any plug-ins at all. In fact, MC4 didn’t need any plug-ins either. I ran MC4 for a short while before going to MC5 and never had a moments trouble linking to AMA volume or AMA file.

What folder are you pointing to when you do this? Assume your file structure looks like this:

    Footage\BPAV\CLPR\XXX

You need to point to the “Footage” folder to this to work, not the BPAV folder.

I’ve tried linking to the ‘Footage’ folder and it produces the same ‘unable to link to any clips at…’ error. Is there a place where I can download some test EX footage? I’d like to try it with footage that has been verified to work.
