I have a problem importing PC .avi files that come from PC users into my Mac After effects.

The .avi files are uncompressed DV material.
I can play those files in Quicktime on the Mac but AE wont let me open these files.

What can I do, besides changing these .AVI files?

Is there a codec or a plugin i can download to make AE accept these files?

    Has anyone experienced similar problems?

For cross-platform transfer, I’d prefer losslessly compressed TGAs sequence. They’re much more portable, have Aplha Channel support, provide for great quality, and can be played back without re-rendering on certain NLEs. Just my .02

You can import uncompressed avi’s directly to AE on the mac, change the pulldown at the top of the import dialogue to “All Files” instead of “All Acceptable Files”, select the file you want to import and then check that the Format pulldown on the bottom is set to Quicktime, the file will then import no problem.
It’s a little trick I learnt here that seems to catch everyone, I don’t understand why they made it so difficult, although
I have a suspicion that editing the preferences file could fix it, I’ll give it a shot as soon as I get a chance.
