  • Import of Canon 5D Mark II RAW files to Premiere Pro not successful ?

Posted by Bob Dix on May 24, 2014 at 10:24 am

Using Canon Utility to import, appears to not recognize the camera ,but, does work with a Sony Camcorder HXR-NX30P using Windows import for Adobe CS5.5.2. USB 2 Cabling has been checked for stills.

    Any ideas ?

This transfer of data has worked for 3 years ?

    Hi Bob

I work with 5d footage on occasion and I just ingest from the card direct to a local drive.

Works fine and always has.no matter what PPro version

I never have used or even seen any import utility app.

What format are you trying to import? What does RAW mean? CR2 files? DNG files? Canon XF? H.264? I’m assuming you don’t mean Canon RAW from a C500 because you wouldn’t be using CS 5 to edit.

If you shot CR2 still files you’ll need to bring them into Photoshop or Lightroom and convert them to a format PPro can read – PSD, JPEG, tif, png, etc. PPro CS5 can’t take CR2 files.

Sorry, not clear enough. CR2 (converted to jpeg in Canon Professional or Photoshop)but, this is prior to that, the original files cannot be opened ) problem is the Canon Utility does not recognise the camera.

I shot with this camera a year ago and used no utility or import process. Copy the folder/files over to a drive and was able to read/edit them directly in Pr CC with no importation or transcoding. I think they appeared in .mov files wrappers in Finder but I understand they are actually not QT files.
