“Import DVD Camcorder Disc” Problem

Hello All,
I was supplied with several DVDs of some high school football games. My problem is that they would not import/convert into Vegas using the “Import DVD Camcorder Disc” function (tried Vegas 7 & 9). I was able to target the DVDs in Vegas under the above mentioned function and a folder was created where the file should have been saved, but it was empty. I’ve used this function several times before and have had a couple of DVDs error out in the past, but never have had this bad of a problem. The DVDs are duplicates that were probably duped on a DVD duplicator. There is no menu page on the DVDs, it goes right to the start of the football game. The DVDs do work in my stand alone player. I’m trying to avoid having to capture all of the DVDs into Vegas. It’s all SD video. Any thoughts on why this may be happening?

You can also use Windows Explorer to find the VOB files on the DVD. Copy them from the DVD to your computer and then change the extention from .vob to .mpg. Then add them to the timeline.

There has to be a VIDEO_TS folder or no player will handle the DVD.

Yes, that’s correct, and that’s where the .vob files will be.

I did a bit more research on this.

The DVDs contain a “VIDEO_TS” folder (as mentioned in the thread above).

When I play one of the DVDs on a set top DVD player or on my computer using my DVD viewing software, the video shows up as a 51 minute video.

In the VIDEO_TS folder there were 3 .vob files. One was approx 780mb one was 40mb and the other was approx 1gb. I renamed them with the .mpg extention (per above suggestion) and imported them into Vegas. Once on the timeline in Vegas the total run time of the three clips equaled approx 22 seconds.

I don’t know what’s going on! Any thoughts?

Dave, try using DVD Shrink (it’s free) to accomplish this.
I discussed the procedure for doing this in the Import VOB Files to Timeline thread.

Thanks for your suggestion Mike, but the saga continues. I tried both DVD Shrink and DVD Encrypter. Both softwares go throught the creation of the VOB files, but they only ad up to 22 seconds of video (they should be 52 minutes).

I noticed that when I open the folder on the DVD itself and highlight the VOB files the time at the bottom of the Windows 7 folder also ads up to 22 seconds. But when I play the DVD in a player or DVD viewing software on the pc it runs for the full 52 minutes.

Right now I’m tilting my head to the side like a dog does when it’s trying to figure out what you want!

This sort of sucks 🙂
