Import AMA clips new avid user
is there a workflow that would allow us to use AMA, with clips in multiple bins and folders, to edit a project. Once Edit is complete or locked automate a way for avid to locate those clips where ever they are in the bin structure and import them into the Avid Media folder as DNxhd or XDcam or what ever flavor is wanted.
Idealling i would like to do this as a means of getting into the edit ASAP and not having to wait and import every clip epsically if i know that a majority of clips won’t be used. but then bealbe import later only the clips in my timeline so i could use a .aiff workflow or for Audio editing or Color Grading with other software.

I personally would not recommend editing straight from AMA, but a lot of people do and they seem to get by just fine.
Keep your media organized. Once AMA volumes are opened, do not move or rename any files or folders from with the media came from.
Edit your sequence.
Consolidate & Transcode your sequence into whichever Drive you want and Convert to the format of your likings.
This will make MXF files of ONLY the master clips used in the edit.
If you need all of the media, then go to your AMA media bin(s) and Consolidate & Transcode the clips in a batch.

I’m actually cutting with AMA (as Khoren describes). It’s the 2nd job that I’ve done this way and no problems yet…
