  • Import 3d position data from 3ds max

this is a 2 part question:
    1) i know i can import 3d position data for a camera (RPF Camera Import) from 3ds max but i wanted to know if there is a way of importing the position data of other objects, like a dummy, a vertex, point helper etc’…?

    2) if i can’t import anything beside an RPF Camera, is it possible to copy the position data and keyframes to another object inside AE? for instance a null object….

thanx in advance to anyone who can help me 🙂

Yes, It would be great if you could provide your method.
I’ve been struggling with using a script I found on script spot
    maxtoae.mse.

But, every time I copy and paste the position data from the text file into the position track, the object in AFX, whose position track I’m pasting to, jumps off the comp to the upper left??

BTW I’m using AFX 7 to do this. In AFX cs3, you can’t even paste
    to the position track.

    any help is much appreciated

    thanks
    MH

OK sorry for not replying for so long,
I’ll try to to make it short and simple, so here we go
first of all i used the same script (maxtoae) when it exports the data in the top part of the data is the technichal info on resolution, pixel aspect ratio, FPS etc’…
make sure it corresponds to the rendered footage you imported in to AE

on each corner of the plane that i wanted to export into AE i placed a helper.
i used 4 exported data for each one of the corners in the corner pin effect in AE
for the layer to be placed in the correct position you need to zero out the values of the anchor point and the position (that will put your layer in the top left corner – its OK)
once you paste the values from the “maxtoae” script it should now be placed in the correct position in the comp

if you matched all the technical info between max and AE it should work for you
