[Simon Ubsdell] “OK, so did anyone ever observe that this stuff is pretty subjective and not really conformable to rational discussion?”

rather – but the thing is I find I like it Simon. The GUI beats everything, I think the timeline is getting delicious, I want to learn to casually sandwich source timelines vertically properly for IV based material selects like I’m seeing it being executed by smart peeps, the annotated marker panel is murderously effective – and well basically, the committee as such designing it is largely the FCP team as was. They really did hire half of them.

Also, and on a more sombre note – FCP has exactly twelve months left to live – Andrew Richards has stated that its bones and marrow in QTkit are formally now deprecated –
that is a polite 12 month apple gong death sentence.

I’m looking at you Ubsdell – as it is presented – do you move to avid X or premiere.

I know the lesser of three weevils when I see it.

Functionally it was also much more simplistic than iMovie11, which as you point out was Oct. 2010 (I thought it was out before FCPX, but thought I saw differently at Wikipedia)

In the end it’s semantics. FCPX evolved from the same pool of ideas as iMovie ’08. Whether they were born in a product called “iMovie” or (as I have heard) Ubilis’ proto “FirstCut” program.

People rally against iMoviePro because of the negative connotations. And it’s lazy criticism. I personally don’t care where the ideas came from as long as they’re good ones.

come on – they’ll get to it – mooney runs weekend competitions where he codes features as part of Zuckerberg style intern deathmatches – have you seen how fast the software is moving simon?

joking aside – come on – that software is moving surreally fast – you are now native timeline turnaround to speedgrade with no penalties in either direction. PPRo development is nuts. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t think the iteration is close to ludicrous right now. It feels like its going exactly as fast as they can type it out.

    leave. premiere/britney. alone.

also, could chris harlan please come in and defend this software.

    Er, all three maybe?

I won’t be as happy in any of them as I’ve been in Legacy but what can you do? Life goes on.

I will take Pr “Pro” more seriously though, since you suggest that I should.

If I can only get past the dullness …

It works just fine and all but …

    Man, is it dull!

[Marcus Moore] “In the end it’s semantics.”

Semantics, indeed, as Mr Garchow is always there to remind us.

    But also history.

And history can be informative at times.

[Aindreas Gallagher] “no, I’m afraid its a silly little editor is FCPX. “

    :Insert Silly Walk Sketch here:

[Aindreas Gallagher] “much regarded… by those who like a yankee automatic shift sayyy, for those who say there is nothing to be gained and much to be lost by manual control. I mean really – how does that make sense honestly? another man’s automatic is more creative control? Lunacy.

(broad british accent read for that paragraph anyway.)”

    :insert Argument sketch here:

[Aindreas Gallagher] “How could an automatic be preferable? mmm? ;)”

OK, I’d like to modify the analogy. It’s more like an F1 or Dragster version of an AT. Not 3 on the tree. 🙂

Anyway, the following has nothing to do with anything, but after posting the silly clip above, I found the project and opened it up. Cut quite some time ago (X 10.0.6?), on a fully decked out Mac Pro. It didn’t play very well without rendering. Now, on my silly little iMac running the latest version of the silly editor, it plays just fine, no rendering required. Here’s a screenshot from the ancient, crappy, system. Back when I was confused by, and afraid of the primary. Those were the days…

dullness my aunt. this below link feels configurable to circumstance to me. and this was V6. I tend to idealise other people’s work practise but I’m doing a fair whack of IV based stuff lately – the kicker is he heavily employs prelude originated range annotated markers. you know, like first cut whatnot.

    https://vimeo.com/64247800

and a really nice super smart chat he had about things.

    https://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/tips-for-logging-interviews-in-adobe-prelude/

that guy looks extremely effective to me simon, and he was happily hammering in V6.
Have you actually tried V7? because I swear to god its lovely. The timeline is anyway.

Unfortunately (as with anything else with Apple) it’s nigh-impossible to get a clear picture.

I’ve been told some things that roughly back up Charlie’s version of events. From someone fewer degrees of Kevin Bacon away from the source than any of us. But of course I can’t say who or how, so you’ll have to take that for what it is, or as the mad ramblings of a lunatic desperately seeking internet fame!

well so fiiine – granted you, you know, actually know what you are talking about – there are colour wheels tho right? amirite?

Because I know, er, AE, colour finesse, magic bullet and colorista – and I haven’t exactly learnt the third one – although the tutorials available – why haven’t I learnt colorista?

sheriously – why is SG so bad – does it all have to be nodal? i know its got a non-standard lift thing for the black base stuff but are there really cardinal sins?

[Simon Ubsdell] “Please don’t tell me editing is only about this:”

come on – that is an ocean wide bullseye – not to be mean but you do cut trailers right? – I’ve cut say well paid BTS for a car launch from TAG where lots of people say similar or vaguely conflicting things for a commercial or message driven purpose and you need to pull out meaning – with all due respect Simon – we are neither of us currently clawing at society.

seriously – I would direct your recalcitrant attention again simply towards that zingy timelapse – it’s this one simon:

    https://vimeo.com/64247800

I just rather like the look of that flow. Simon. Yeah, you. You in the hat. Simon.

(So…. if it might make it feel better, let’s maybe just consider that a timelapse process from an un-aired nineteen seventies ken loach movie trailer cutting session no?)

    that’s right. claws out. boom.

    FCP8 = V7.
