Image dimension problem
Hi I need help about my file size. I need to have an image size of 8000px X 4500px in photoshop. So I created an artwork in illustrator, set the size to 8000px X 4500px 300ppi. Then I saved as pdf. When I opened it in photoshop, the image’s dimension multiplied by 4! It became 32000px X 18000px. Why is this happening? Do I need to scale down my artwork in illustrator? Again, I set the artboard to 8000×4500. How come I couldn’t achieve the same size in photoshop? Can anyone please explain it and advise, any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

There are two different things that control sizing. The amount of pixels in an image and image resolution. Both need to match between Illustrator and Photoshop in order to import at the same physical size. Thus, if your Illustrator image is 8000px X 4500px at 72 dpi (dots per inch), you want to open it in Photoshop at 72 dpi. Most likely you’re opening the 72 dpi image at 300 dpi which quadruples the size.

Okay but what if I want to have an image in photoshop with 8000px X 4500px at 300 dpi? What will be my artboard size in illustrator (300 dpi) in order to match with photoshop? Because I tried to divide the dimension in illustrator with 8000px X 4500px by 4 but when I opened in photoshop still won’t match.

You can make your illustration at 8000 x 4500 px and open it at 72 dpi in Photoshop, then resize the image in PS to 300 dpi without resampling (turn that checkbox off). You will have an 8000 x 4500 px image at 300 dpi.
A pixel by itself does not represent a physical measurement, you can set 100 pixels to represent any physical dimension. That’s what resolution is for: resolution tells you how many pixels represents an inch (or other physical measurement), which you can change at any time. But don’t resample for that purpose, for that will change the image.
Resample only if you want to actually change the number of pixels.
