    Hi Shane,
What I meant is that the most part of those cameras (EX-1, HVX200,..) will be used no as B or even A cameras, but as the “only camera”.
I know that you work for a quite demanding market that can afford the best quality equipment to get the best product.
You can read below this post my equipment. Is quite limited but believe me, I luckily own the best video system of this whole country. I consider my a self a very privileged person for the means I have to do my job and for me to read that my beautiful new acquired EX-1 is a B camera is sounds so far from the reality (or my reality).
However if somebody wants to come to shoot to Laos and needs a second camera, here is mine.

    Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
    G5 2x2Gh 4GbRAM-BlackMagic Extreme
    PMBP 17″Core2Duo 4GbRAM-AJA ioHD
    JVC DTV-17″
    SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table.

Gotcha….I myself consider the HVX-200 and the EX1 as perfectly viable A cameras as well…

[Arnie Schlissel] “Remember that these are the people who announced Red 1 for $17,500. And so long as you didn’t need audio, lenses, storage, batteries, viewfinder, tripod mount, or anything else that would actually make it work, then yes you could argue that it does cost only $17,500. “

I remember when the RED One was announced. At no point were they ever dishonest about what you do and don’t get for your $17,500.

    Jerry,

I too have vowed that the RED is the last camera I will ever BUY!! The Scarlet unveiling was definitely one of the highlights of NAB this year. RED is the new paradigm shift, as I have stated before! It is also good that you were allowed to expound on this subject in a forum other than the RED forum. I tried to start this same type of RED thread in the Panasonic forum awhile back and was shot down and “warned” by Ron for being a troll, fanboy etc. when all that was wanted was an intelligent and vibrant discussion of cutting edge technology, as this thread so aptly reflects. Good work! I guess it helps being a forum leader when posting content! I also think NAB was far better this year than any I have attended in the past. Apple and Avid were not even missed in the least…..

I have to rent an HDCam SR machine once in a while for about $1k a day. The thought that instead of SR tape, I could have been given a vastly superior format (REDCODE) on a cheap hard drive – well it just seems so silly.

I gotta tell ya, that an all digital workflow and delivery sans tape is likely to take some time to come to fruition… but hey, it’s the future for sure.

Yep, I’m with you there. It was all very well laid out pretty much as $17,500 for the camera, about $50,000 fully loaded. For all you’re getting, about $50,000 is very cheap.
