You need to follow what is called the ‘THREE POINT EDITING RULES’
Either set an in and out point on the tape to be mastered via the Edit to Tape window. Then Create an in point on the clip to be mastered.
Or vice versa, an in and out point on the clip to master and an in point on the tape via the Edit to Tape window.
Final Cut Pro automatically calculates the fourth point.

Your deck will insert edit. Our AJ-D650 will also, I just haven’t got it to work w/ FCP. We used to insert edit all the time W/Media100 or In Sync Razor. But 4 some reason FCP won’t do an insert with these DVCPRO deck, none that I have seen anyway. Just assemble edit.

Make sure you switch the RS422 protocol to Panasonic (default is Sony) in the capture settings.
