So I attempted to import footage directly into FCP from both my Canon HF-S20 and 7D by selecting the log and transfer option. I then selected non-controlable device. The message prompts: “Attempt to capture video without a device selected. Please select a video device in your capture presets…” So looking in capture presets I only can see the “non-controllable device” option, which I previously selected???

You must be in “Log and Capture” as opposed to “Log and Transfer” Shift CMD 8 (not CMD 8)

The 7D is tapeless, and HF-S20 shoots to SD cards, correct? Log and Capture is for tape, Log and Transfer is for Tapeless.

Thanks Richard, I’ll experiment with the log and transfer option.

There are specific steps you need to take for tapeless import. #1 is backup the footage. And the 7D footage requires a plugin for log and transfer. I have a full tutorial on this. I’m on my phone so I can’t link, but click on my name, then on Tutorials, and you’ll find it
