    Hello Bovine Oracles

i know this has been covered in other posts-but i’m having no success in trying to copy Illustrator masks into AE.I have AE6.5pro and IllCS2.When I copy in Ill. and switch over to ae I get nothing , nada as if it hasn’t copied to the clipboard. I have done the whole edit>prefrences>files and clipboard aicb stuff but to no avail. Illustrator was installed after AE, could that be a problem?

please try to keep the chuckles to yourself if i’m being a retard

Please describe your process in detail, step by step. Describe what you are selecting and copying, and what is selected in AE before pasting.

    Hi Steve
Thanks for replying so quick.I was marque selecting all the paths I wanted and copying ctrl+c then switching to after effects and tried to paste them ctrl+v to a layer.Literally nothing more complicated. When i did this nothing would happen in AE.Then i tried a differnt tack and shutdown AE, repeated the whole selecting and copying malarky, opened AE, new comp, new layer, ctrl+v and hey presto hello masks!

so I reckon it’s some sort of clipboard thing about having both progs running-but then again what would I know!!!

hey, sounds crazy that it would work after shutting AE down and then on again. and again that’s not an entirely fun thing to do all the time. I actually had the same problem and what I had to do was to check the settings in Illustrator in > preferences > file handling & clipboard :: and there check that it copy to PDF is not checked and that AICB is checked together with preserve paths. after I sorted that it worked a charm. you might have done this already and have another hitch on the line somewhere, but it might be worth a look.

    good luck
