I have a path in Illustrator CS that I would like to use as a mask in AE 6.5…In Illustrator, I select and “copy” the path to the clipboard. In AE, I create a solid, select it, and the “paste” option is grayed out. How can I get this path into AE?

well, it sounds like you are set up right…. are you only selecting vector data when you choose copy? if you are selecting raster data too, it may be causing problems….

Not quite sure what EXACTLY is going on….Preferences maybe? But it let me paste onto a layer that is a composition. From there I copied it to the solid. I don’t think I shoud have this problem but, I’m not familar enough with this process to figure out what is happening…Thanks for the help.

[tayres] “But it let me paste onto a layer that is a composition”

    that seems even more strange…

if you want to troubleshoot this, open ae and illustrator. then create a new illustrator file (make the artboard 640×480) and create a simple shape in a new illustrator file, like a square. copy the shape, then go to ae, make a new comp, make a new solid (comp size) and paste. if paste is greyed out, try the keyboard shortcut.
