  illustrator cs2 -9 and AE7 importing problems

  i cant import illustrator layers into AE 7. i have tried saving the illustrator file as versions cs2, 10, and 9. it seems like the layers come in, but theres just nothing there. does anyone know how to fis this? at work i use illsutrator cs and AE7 and it imports layers just fine. help please!!! thanks.
