I would like to create a shot of a guy running up the street, maybe in the “magic hour” from a distance. Then in post give the appearance of the street lights giving off their glow, and as he is running thru them, he has a bit of that glow? I would like to find out how to do this without a third party plugin like trapcode lux.

you might want to check out andrew kramer’s tutorial on day to night conversion. parts of that technique should apply for what you are doing to create some of the effect of the person moving from dark to light areas.

to add the volumetric lighting effect for the street lights, you may be able to simply create a shape with a mask and feather it and adjust the opacity and color to suit the look you’re after.

If you have a little bit of money to spend, Trapcodes’ LUX plugin is perfect for that shot, although personally, I’d probably go with the Day /night conversion myself as well – as its FREE lol

    Hope this was helpful..
