Ikonoskop CinemaDNG and DAVINCI RESOLVE 11
Posted by Wladimir Bonsegnori on August 24, 2014 at 10:13 pmHi there,
Am I missing something or the new Davinci Resolve does not offer any support for the Ikonoskop CinemaDNG? I can’t find Cinemadng as an option on the drop down menu to choose the IDT. If this is really the case, can someone please tell me where to download the version 10?
Thanks

August 25, 2014 at 6:05 amIf you are talking ACES, the IDT is automatically applied for CinemaDNG so nothing to select. V11 also provides the RED r3d IDT automatically too.

August 25, 2014 at 7:33 amYes, but the images don’t look good at all, as they used to with Resolve 10. I could not reach a similar result as I used to with the older version. The colors and the transitions between them look completely wrong. Anyone out there has a solution?

August 25, 2014 at 7:40 amCould it be that parsing and colour encoding methods are changed?
This is like you open up BMC material in AE or in Resolve.
IN theory same file but different method how to use the data that is in the file.

August 26, 2014 at 12:55 pmHere is a DNG file from the Ikonoskop a-cam-dii: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zdye0aw9uwbtok9/10806707.DNG?dl=0
If somebody finds any settings that makes this frame look good, please let everybody know. I have tried almost all possible combinations. In version 10, this frame would look good both selecting and not selecting and IDT and an ODT. Now, nothing works anymore. There are more Ikonoskop users feeling the same:

Ikonoskop Workflow : Where do we stand with Resolve 11 & Adobe Camera Raw?
0I was wondering what the current state of Ikonoskop Workflow is? In the past I’ve used Resolve 8 or 10 to make my dailies using the extremely helpful Joachim post here :
blog.rawcinemashop.be/…/chansons-de-charlotte
I haven’t played with the camera for a while, but now an Ikonoskop project is on the horizon and I’ve picked it up again. I tested Resolve 11 last night and it seems like things have changed from 10 (the colors looked different and some of the steps outlined in the post no longer existed). Additionally, Speedgrade CC 2014 can see Ikono footage (but it looks green and crazy), Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 can see Ikono footage (but with extremely limited grading tools) and I also see that Cliphouse supports Ikonoskop.
Still what I want more than anything is a way to use the Adobe Camera Raw dialogue (what comes up when you bring a .dng into Photoshop, AE, or Light Room) to batch process dailies with timecode. From what I can tell this doesn’t exist, yet (yes you can use AE, but you don’t get timecode and the rendering is insanely slugg
I’ve also been using the workflow described in Joachims post and been very happy with the results. I’m currently waiting to do final grading on a project I shot a couple of months ago, so I don’t dare to update Resolve yet. But if the update means I can’t get the same results it’s not good news at all… Would really like to know more about what’s different in the new version- and if there’s a way do keep working like before.
Take care!
I can get good results with adobe camera Raw and with cliphouse, but not with Resolve 11. I would be very thankful if somebody could help!

August 27, 2014 at 6:53 amIt seems that I have found the solution:
https://www.digitalbolex.com/forum/shooting-on-the-d16/awesome-d16-footage-and-natural-skin-tones-coming-soon/Using BMDFilm gamma and color space, together with choosing Davinci Yrgb instead of ACES gives the best results I have ever seen with this camera. Much much better than before. Wow! Since the Digital Bolex D16 has a very similar sensor as the Ikonoskop, following its forums can be of great help.
