This one is for the knowledge base…

I ran into a problem yesterday with my FCP system. I was setting up to do some programs with the editor and discovered that the audio was delayed by about 6 frames from the video during playback.

Made a call to AJA tech support and got a quick answer – the Kona 3 card was in the wrong slot in the computer (thanks to the integrator for that). The card must be in a 16 lane PCIe slot. In the MacPro machines built in ’08, like mine, slot 1 and 2 are 16 lane slots and slots 3 and 4 are 4 lane slots. There may be a difference in the slots in earlier machines.

The fix was to put the Kona in slot 2, since slot 1 is occupied by the graphics card. Once that was done, everything is in sync and I’m a happy guy!

Props to AJA’s tech support. They’re the best I’ve dealt with in any support situation.

That’s weird because I (like most people) run the card at 4x.

Hey, all I’m saying is that 16x worked and 4x didn’t. Who can truly understand computers?
