[Nick Lanting] “How does the iMac 27″ 3,33GHz C2D compare to the i7 in general performance?
Do you really notice the ‘slower’ CPU?”

Not really. Using After Effects CS5 on it all the time and it’s rendering surprisingly fast.

    Hi,

I recently purchased an iMac 27 2.93GHZ QUAD I7 4GB 1TB 7200RPM ATI RADEON HD 5750 1GB. It was purchased for a production company running in house post. It was the case of plug and play using their Ethernet which was running edit share. It worked fine using xdcam hd even for multi clips.

I bought the iMac as I was able to hire it to the production so it was a no brainer. My question though is now I am left with the mac what is the best small Ethernet based raid to buy?

I need to have external playback probably via aja io hd so I need Ethernet storage.

In this thread you mention i7 not been compatible with high speed Ethernet but I ran my i7 as mentioned on a network and it was fine.

I’m a bit confused. Any ways what’s the answer?

    Thanks guys

    Hello Walter,

I am considering setting up a SAN for editing. I am looking at around 5 Mac computers (I-Macs and Macbook Pros) connected to a gigabit network and a SAN drive (maybe Drobo). I’m finding conflicting information when researching this, and would really love to get some feedback from someone experienced in the process. What would you recommend?

By the way we currently use Final Cut for editing, and are also considering adding either Final Cut server or CatDV.

Thanks in advance for your time!
    -T. Davis
