  • if only! edit AVIs in FCP?

I’ve entered a job with involves compiling DV clips taken from media previously captured as AVIs for editing on a PC in Premiere.

The problem is that I am now working in Final Cut Pro on a mac which doesn’t open AVI’s – even quicktime wont recognise them and gives me the error: “1023”

I have “MPEG Streamclip” which is great for converting AVIs to Movs but this is impractical because I deal with thousands of clips…

Why couldnt the designers of FCP just allow it to recognise AVIs – we live in the modern digital world, is this too much to ask?

is there anything else I can do?

    any help much appreciated!

Not all AVIs have a Mac equivalent codec…

If it does… just batch process…

And the arguement could easily be made since AVI is a discontinued and dead format that Windows should get in on QuickTime…. After all I can open up QuickTime movies from the early 90’s with now issue….
