Ideal desktop spec for Sony Vegas Pro 12

In this order:
1) The fastest processor you can afford
2) Max out your RAM memory
3) Use a hard-disk separate from your O/S disk.
4) Use a high CUDA count nVidia video card

Waste of money:
1) RAID arrays (for speed). Unless you are working with 4K uncompressed cinema video, you don’t need RAID. (If you are, then money is no object so you wouldn’t be asking the question).

No, my 3rd hard drive is my project drive so it’s everything that’s currently under production. Once projects are finished they are moved to a 8TB RAID 5 array and a backup drive so that I have two copies. Also all of my captured video is placed on the RAID 5 array and a backup drive. Then when I’m ready to start a project, I copy the source from the RAID to my project drive, edit on the project drive, then return to the RAID when the project is completed.

I just purchased the CineRAID so it’s not on my equipment page yet. I’ll have to get it up there with the details.

Thanks John. Sounds like a lot. I never delved into RAID setups. I use a 2T SATA drive for just about everything. 500g external WD is full of media and some finished work as is another 1T external drive I need to get another drive to try and sort it all out.
