    actually a half-sphere.

I’ve got this cool huge gradient background that I’m using as the “sky” in my world and I’ve got it auto-orienting to the camera at the moment; however, I’d love to have it bending around the inside of a half-sphere and I have my world to be INSIDE of that sphere. Is this possible or am I dreaming too big and need to get out a 3-D app?

Apply effect>perspective>CC sphere to the sky. It’s one of the Cycore effects that installs from the AE 6.5 CD.

i did this, but it’s still a flat 2D layer when I move my camera around — is there any getting around that?

Not if the camera is directly in the center of the sphere, if you think about it geometrically and optically.

However, if you want some distortion around the edges of your camera’s frame, consider one of the lens/optical distortion effects in AE, such as bulge, or optics compensation.

I also think this was covered in a thread a couple of weeks ago.

    i’ll try it again, thanks.

sorry if it was previously discussed – i searched before posting but didn’t come up with anything.

No worries — sometimes the threads cover an alternate solution to the problem, so they don’t always appear when you search a certain way. The thread covered wide angle distortion, not CC sphere specifically.

Though that may not help you … 🙂

The layer that has CC Sphere on it needs to be a 2D layer, don’t enable the 3D switch.

What it’ll do is use the Comp Camera’s position for rendering the viewpoint of the sphere.
