In Premiere Pro CC version 7.0 and later you can sort by ‘List View’. See attached images below.

[Justin Crowell] “Anddddd….apparently no fix in CC. Wonderful.”

Actually the view order has been completely re-done in CC. Can pretty much put them in any user defined order you like.

Oh this is huge! Maybe having “list view” sort as a default on future versions would save some confusion and headaches for other editors migrating. thanks!

I’m trying to set a view in the “sort icons” menu, close the bin and then return to have it still be set to the same view. However, it keeps reseting to some other view, presumably a default. Is there any way to change this behavior? Perhaps there’s a way to set a sort view as default and have it stay that one when you close the bin?

Also, is there any way to arrange the clips in the order you want in either icon or list view (and naturally have them remain that way once you leave the bin and then return later)? In other words, you lay out the clips in the clip in the order that they would play in your piece. I haven’t seen a way to do this, so my work around is to sort them by using one of the columns such as “Comment” or “Log Note” to provide an order through numbers, letters or both. Is there a simpler way?

    Thanks,
    B

I’m not sure why the list/icon view is changing when you leave a bin. Someone else might have the answer for that, but sorting by filename is as easy as creating a new bin in premiere – go to finder – click on the “name” tab above your clips in finder, so they are sorted by name, and then drag those clips into the bin.

The bin will show the clips in the order you bring them in — meaning if you finder sorted by date modified, and drag them in, they will come in by date/time, if you have them sorted by name in finder they will appear in the alpha-numerical order of the filenames.

Thank you. We found that it was as simple as using the “User Order” in the “Sort Icons” drop-down menu. This keeps your thumbnail order. You can reorder the thumbnails/clips by clicking, dragging and dropping them where you wish them to be.

As far as I see, currently the list view order cannot be customized except by using the existing information columns. However one could also use numbers and/or letters in the “Name,” “Comment” or “Log Note” columns (for instance) to be able to maintain a separate order.

    Thanks!

Can List View Sort be set as a default for new projects?
