    Hello everyone,

I actually use FCPX on a new iMac at work, but I would also like to be able to work from home on my older MacPro. I think I have understood that I need to get a new video card with a large processor as well as around 16 gigs RAM? Is that correct?

Has anyone else done this and had everything working well? Which video card seems to be best?

Is there also a need to go to Lion, as well? Or, can I stay in Snow Leo (10.6.8) as everything works well?

Thank you for your time, I appreciate it.

Actually, my MacPro is older (2006) and running FCP X very well. The video card seems to be the most important factor.

I have a a MacPro 1,1. Radeon 5770 ($250 or so at the online Apple store), 13GB of Ram, running on a not to speedy 160MB/Sec eSATA RAID.

Just pick up a 5770, a bit of RAM and you’ll be good to go.

I’ll second that. I’m also running on a Mac Pro 1,1 with a Radeon 5770 card. I’ve only got 7gb of RAM but that hasn’t been an issue so far.

Thanks for your replies, that is great to know!

Any thoughts on staying in Snow Leo OS or going to Leo for FCPX (I’d rather not, yet, to save money since everything works for me now…). But, if there is a reason to consider I am open to learning.

Again, thank you and I hope all is well,

If you have a SDI card in your Mac Pro, you will need at least 10.7.2 to use it with FCP X. Other than that I think everything should work with 10.6.8 .
