  • I would like to use another application while FCP plays?

Posted by Stephen Barnes on November 22, 2010 at 11:12 pm

I would like to take notes on the footage in a Word document, but every time I click out of Final Cut, the footage stops playing.

    I don’t think there’s a way around this, but I thought I’d ask here.

Does anyone know a way to make Final Cut keep playing, even while another application is being used?

    Thanks very much,

    Steve

I would suggest exporting a reference file and playing it in quicktime. I don’t know if it’s possible to play an actual timeline while being in another app…

    You can’t.

IF you want to take notes, simply open the clips in Quicktime Player and that allows you to use Word at the same time.

If it’s an edited timeline, export the timeline as a self contained or reference file.

I do this all the time. While capturing footage via FW.
I’ll click on the desktop first then click on web browser or email or whatever and work away while loading in footage. Never had a prob with this for years.

I’ve used a note taking widget before….i think it was called simple note, or maybe something from iSlayer. Either way, start playing your timeline, open the dashboard, and type away!

    Chris,
I think the timeline behaves differently than the capture window. I’ve done the same thing while capturing, but it won’t let you switch focus without stopping playback on the timeline.

Ahh, I miss-read. I thought of Capture not sequence playback.

    Thanks.
