I think I found a BUG….
Posted by David Battistella on January 30, 2012 at 12:13 pmRecorded two channel audio
Ch 1 Voice
Ch 2 silentUsed Remove silent channels during import
I broke apart clip items to get rid of picture.
Clip names in the timeline are now showing up with clip name AUTO REMOVED SILENCE instead of the original media file name.
open the clip in the inspector channel configuration reads UNSUPPORTED CLIP.
Can not change that to mono or stereo.
Can not “undo” the auto removed silence.BAD
Because the audio will not export as OMF.
BAD
All audio is 48K
I am a bit stumped on this.
Any takers?

January 30, 2012 at 2:46 pmRendered Prores files from RED Source.
The audio is there.
I see it. I hear it.
Just when I broke apart the clips the RED file names were lost as well.
I wish I could re-import the media.

January 30, 2012 at 2:50 pmI haven’t tries this yet, but I can later.
Have you tried dragging the qt movies back on to your event from the Finder without the remove silence option checked?
Try it on one clip first.

January 30, 2012 at 3:03 pmThe OMF (autoducks 5.10 exporter) does not like any of the audio from this source.
It exports all kinds of other stuff, music, etc. But nothiing attached to clips or broken apart from clips.
Weirdness.
David
Trying the option copy now on the event now.

January 30, 2012 at 3:17 pmThe OMF (autoducks 5.10 exporter) does not like any of the audio from this source.
It exports all kinds of other stuff, music, etc. But nothiing attached to clips or separated from clips seems to be recognized.
The audio is:
Linear PCM, 32 bit big-endian signed integer, 48000 Hz, 2.0

January 30, 2012 at 3:41 pmWhat I’m wondering is if the tracks are really silent, or if there’s an unnoticeable signal (noise) that trips up FCPX’s auto remove filter.
Was there anything plugged in to that channel at all even if the level was all the way down?
Maybe it doesn’t like the 32bit nature of the files?
I don’t know.

January 30, 2012 at 3:57 pmIt’s wierd.
I think it has to do with breaking apart the clips and deleting the video portion (which I always do when I am into dialog editing mode.
If I open a new project and slap ten clips in there the project is fine.
If I break apart the audio and video and throw out the video it is fine.
If I remove a silent channe on import and then do the same steps then the file “looses” channel configuration and becomes an “unsupported clip”.
Wierd..

January 30, 2012 at 5:25 pmSo, the audio is fine, it’s just the break apart nature that screws it up after the AutoRemove.
i am going to play around with this today as well, but good sleuthing.
It does sound like a bug.

January 30, 2012 at 6:02 pmYes.
Massive bug.
if you break apart the items. Move the video off the primary storyline and delete it (leving only the audio) then you are pretty much left with audio that can no longer be called Stereo, Mono, Dual mono, etc. It’s just undefined and then OMF exporters do not see it as audio.
The only way out is to multitrack with roles, but that means NO HANDLES.
DUMB.BAD.
