I need to know how to make a map.
Do you know of any tutorials anywhere that teach you how to make a map. I see it quite a lot on TV to establish where somebody is they have a 3D map that zooms in, may even have a 3D relief and 3D features like forests etc.
Any suggestions?

Well, if you’re looking for topography in your map, you’re probably either going to want to look at a 3D modeling app, or else you can do a more stylistic 2D in 3D space in Motion or AE.
The ideal point if working the 2D in 3D space route will be to draw the map as vector shapes either in Motion itself or in Illustrator. Then you can zoom in close and fly low on the map without aliasing of the image.

You could use the magnetic lasso in Photoshop to select the outline of an existing map, then save your selection as a path. Then you could work with it in Illustrator before bringing it into Motion.
