    Hi gurus

I need to ceate an avid compatible edl from some other application. I have Premier cs3, Final Cut 5, and some version of Vegas in our facility. We need to supply another facility with an avid compatible edl. The edit is a 30 second promo that only uses clean cuts dissolves and a few rampings.

    Thank you in advance

WHAT other application? You mentioned 3. Which one specifically?

Automatic Duck works for FCP to Avid…and for Premiere to FCP. But not sure about Premiere to Avid and definately not Vegas to Avid.

Just export a CMX3600 EDL and take that into the Avid. But note that ANY speed changes, any funky transitions or filters that are a part of the NLE will not transfer to the Avid. Basic cuts and dissolves only, and no effects.

    Thanks Shane!

What I meant by “other application” is an application other than avid. And the three I have access to is Premier Cs3, Final Cut 5 and Vegas 8, (and AE but I hate editing in AE)

Could you be so kind as to explain a bit about automatic duck, I know a lot of AE users use that app, but I myself never have.

    Thanks!

    Luis,

CS3 will allow you to create a CMX EDL which should be readable by Avid
Automatic Duck will allow you to ‘translate’ the timeline from one product to another (Avid/Adobe/Apple)
CS4 will allow you to import and export an Avid AAF which could be better as well.
