I know there’s a way to do this, but I haven’t had a very good time figuring it out on my own. I have a scene I shot in an alley, which I did have some light on the subject, but as it turns out, not enough. I only had a 12 guage extension cord, but needed to put about 4 lights on him instead of 2. How do I go about adding some lighting in post to compensate?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I’m using AE 6.5 Pro.

Try Au Naturel. It has an awesome exposure adjustment. Looks much much more like a real exposure adjustment than just lightening the footage or using levels.

Well, generally what isn’t lit just doesn’t have light. It’s way easier to take a flat, overly lit image and build in contrast, but the other way around can really degrade your image by bringing up noise/grain where areas are underexposed. As a whole though you can just color correct it brigher. Bring the whites up and balance the gammas back out. You can lift the blacks but it will make them milky.

I like the Knoll Glow filter. It worked pretty good for me to emulate a light behind a wall etc. Casts nice soft rolloffs toward the subject, and with some clever masking can seem to illuminate their faces.

Go to Reg Giant Software to get the specs/cost etc.
