Hello, and thanks for taking the time to read this.

I’m new here and I’m not an editor or film maker by profession however, I’m making short tutorial videos using screen recordings for some of the content.

I’m capturing the screen using Quicktime player in 1080p and exporting as this too. Everything has been fine until I open a program I’d like to capture. When I open the programs preferences my cursor leaves a path of pixels when i move it but only within the preference window opened. If i move the cursor outside of the window but still in the program it is fine. Also when I close the preference window the cursor behaves normally leaving no stream of pixels too.

My problem being I’m trying to record how you set the preferences for the program.

I’m really at a loss as to how I can fix this issue.

Does anybody have any ideas they care to share with me.

    Thanks in advance if so.

    Seb

It’s possible your computer isn’t up to recording the screen and running the app you want to record at the same time – or more specifically the GPU isn’t keeping up. What’s the app you’re trying to capture?

I’d suggest downloading a trial of some the dedicated screen recording applications and seeing if it still happens. They are way more optimised to record in the background that Quicktime is.

I use TechSmith Camtasia to create all of my Boris TV tutorials and I’ve never had any problems. Camtasia has it’s own capture codec which is highly optimized for capturing computer generated images like screen captures. They have a free trial so you have nothing to loose.
