I used to be a Premiere user. Now that I have switched over to Final Cut Pro 4.5, I am rather confused about some things, even if the programs are relatively similar.

First off, the text generator. Am I missing something, or is the text generator extremely inferior to that of Premiere? There are so few options…

Secondly, about moving things. In Premiere, when you want to move a portion of video, it is very easy to fine-adjust, because you can just click the numbers and drag. Yet in Premiere, it seems that you can only manually type in the numbers, which makes it much more of a trial-and-error process than I feel it should be.

Now, I realize that my questions are very awkwardly phrased. I’m really bad at describing things like that. If you need further explanation, especially for the last question, I will try to re-word it, and possibly include pictures to help describe what I mean.

    Hi Pat,

Yes, the FCP text generator sucks, but there Title 3D from Boris that comes with it which is quite good. There’s also a bunch of other third-party text tools you can get such as CHV’s Text Collection which is great.

Not sure what you mean by your second question, are you trying to drag clips around in the canvas or slip the video in them? Up in the top right-hand section of the canvas window, select image and wireframe and you can easily drag footage around, but when you get it close you should open the clip in the viewer and set the integers to even ones.

    Hope this helps…

    Have a wonderful day.

An even easier way to do fine adjustment of the position is to highlight the clip in the canvas or on the timeline, and with the view set to “Image + Wireframe” or “Wireframe”, simply hit the up/down left/right arrow keys while holding down the “Option” keys. This will nudge the image one pixel at a time in the desired direction making fine adjustment a snap. When you get it where you want, do check the motion tab and make sure that the positions are on even, whole numbers and the video will then look it’s best.
