I have a glitch between my Sony DVCAM and FCP.
My Sony DSR-45 DVCAM deck and FCP 5.1.4 are not getting along. There is a drop out in video and audio every few seconds whenever I play something in the timeline or try to capture. This only starts happening after several minutes of editing. The deck works fine on other computers and FCP works perfectly when the deck is off. I’ve checked my firewire port with other devices and it seems to be working fine. My FCP settings are standard DV NTSC from the Easy Setup menu which has never caused any problems. And of corse, I’ve done what everyone does when they’re desperate, trashed FCP and reinstalled. Any suggestions?

Are you capturing to firewire drives? If so, try caturing to an internal hard drive, hopefully not your system drive, and see if the same problems occur.

Thank you for your reply. I’ve always captured to external firewire drives with no problems. I had considered that it may be a problem with the external hard drive, but like I said, the drop out only occurs when the deck is on. Are you saying that there might be a problem with streaming from a firewire external hard drive through FCP to my firewire DVCAM deck? I had also considered that, but it seems to work fine on other computers with the same hard drive. Any other suggestions? Thanks again!

You used to “always” be able to capture to external firewire drives, but now you can’t. That was the past, let’s work in the present. As I suggested earlier, try to capture to an internal hard drive as a test.
